Do you ever think about where you want to be in life?
Where do you see your life going? I know. That probably sounds pretty deep but think about it; not what you’ve done today or plan on doing this week. I’m talking about the bigger picture,in a year or even 5 years on. We spend a lot of time focusing on living in the moment. This focus is important. But lately, I’ve been thinking about my life and what I want out of it.
Someone once told me ‘the surrounding you chose surround yourself in, shapes the life you will live’.
I was told that one sentence at the beginning of the year. It has stuck in my mind for nearly 12 months. Think about it, there is a lot of truth to that logic because we become what we surround ourselves with.
This gave me food for thought
Thinking on from that one sentence, I started to think about it more and more. I realized that we have one life. Ultimately, it is our responsibility to become exactly who we want to be. After that meeting I started to re evaluate everything, my surroundings and who I chose to give my energy to. After all, we are each our own priority.
Nowadays I try to ask myself three important questions. If those questions don’t have a positive answer, I then need to ask myself another question. Will it help me become the best version of myself? The answers I give to these questions help me find clarity and understand the value of my life.
Okay, here we go!
3 important Questions you need to ask yourself

1) Does that situation or person bring you peace and happiness? Or disturb it?
If the decision you chose to make affects your quality of life, then you must ask yourself. Is this causing more harm than good? Am I happy with this? Does it cause me distress? These questions I ask myself can be based on something or someone. For example if I have a friend and the friendship isn’t healthy, do I continue to be in that position? If a friendship brings drama or negativity, it’s time for me to walk away. Eventually, it will affect me in various ways. Again, I once saw a phrase that said ‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.’ Think about that for a moment.
2) Does it make you feel appreciated, valued or content?
Feeling valued and accepted within a situation is very important. You can’t heal in an environment that is making you sick, that doesn’t just mean physically. A situation that is affecting your emotional well being will always bring you down should you stay there. Feeling unhappy or not appreciated can cause psychological damage and issues with self esteem. Knowing your self worth is very important, you know what you bring to the table. If you are not being appreciated or receiving the same respect you give, respect yourself enough to walk away.
I have always been a kind and generous person, I used to think that was a good attribute to have. Sadly it can also be a weakness as well as a strength. Sometimes that kindness can be taken for granted, not everyone is your friend. Some people are nice because it benefits them.
3) Will this situation help you grow and get to where you want to be, if not why?
Imagine having a job with a low pay wage. It’s not the desired career you see yourself doing long term. If you were to stay in that job, would it help get to where you want to be? Or will it actually delay your progression and growth? If the answer to those questions were no then you must ask yourself why won’t it? What is it about that situation that is holding you back? Is it the wrong job entirely? Or does it prevent you from studying to gain qualifications for the job you do want?
The same goes to other scenarios. If it is holding you back from being where you want to be, then ask yourself why. We have one life, it is important we live it the best we can and how we want to.
Life is a journey and you have control of the wheel
Hopefully this post has been useful and given you some inspiration to always place yourself first. Surround yourself with people that help you flourish. Find those who make you smile. who help you to know your worth. Decide if you belong at other people’s tables. Check if that is even the right table to be at. Know what it is you bring and if it is not appreciated or reciprocated then walk away.
Sincerely, Abbey x

This is a great outlook on life. I definitely agree that if it doesn’t serve a purpose positively, there isn’t much point sticking with it. Re-evaluating your life every so often is a great way to continue growing as a person.
