It is okay to ask for help when you’re struggling

It’s okay to not be okay

I know it sounds pretty cliche but it’s okay not to be okay.

Sometimes life can get challenging and throw things towards our direction, which can come out of no where and be so unexpected. It can hit us like a ten tonne brick especially when not prepared. Remembering that it’s okay not to be okay is so important.

A lot of people try to struggle on alone due to the stigma which surrounds mental health. Let me tell you this now, It’s okay to ask for help when you are struggling. It does not in any way shape or form make you weak or less valued. In fact it shows strength and courage to heal as well as recover.

Prioritise yourself

Think of your mind and body like a car, if something goes wrong with the car what do you do? Do you ignore it? Definitely not as the car would break down and not be use able. So when you are struggling emotionally why would you not get help for that? Another example is if you was to break your leg, would you leave it or would you go and get it checked out?

What I am getting at here is that mental health is just as important as physical health or any other aspect in life. If you don’t look after it, how can you function?

Seeking Help for Your Mental Health

When you find yourself in the midst of a mental health crisis and no amount of self help is doing the job, it’s crucial to remember that seeking help isn’t a sign of weakness at all, but rather a brave and proactive step towards healing and recovery. Here are some motivational reminders for reaching out for support:

  1. You’re not alone: Countless individuals have experienced similar challenges and found incredible strength in seeking professional help.
  2. Your well-being matters: Prioritizing your mental health is a powerful act of self-care and self-respect. By seeking help, you’re taking an important step towards a healthier and happier life.
  3. It’s okay to ask for help: Acknowledge the courage it takes to recognise when you need support and take that vital step to reach out for assistance.
  4. Professional support is invaluable: Trained professionals can provide the guidance and support needed to navigate through tough times and ultimately thrive.

Remember, the decision to seek help is a significant and commendable choice that can lead to a positive transformation that could change your life forever. You deserve to live a fulfilling and balanced life, and taking that first step towards support is a powerful in itself. To some degree the only person who can make that step towards a better life is you. Do not be afraid to reach out and let someone know whether that is a professional or a loved one.
